You’ve probably heard of the word Disney a thousand times. But do you know who was the man behind the creation of one of the most successful and well-known companies in the world?
His name was Walt. Walter Elias Disney. Walt Disney (1901-1966) is considered one of the best moviemakers ever! The first “Disney” movie was also the first “Great” movie. It was called Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and it was a hit! He made many movies that we still know today, like Pinocchio, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, and the Jungle Book! He also created Disney’s famous icons, like Tinker Bell, Sleeping Beauty Castle, Disneyland, and Mickey Mouse. One of his most famous non-movie creations, Disneyland California, is one of the most famous theme parks in the world, and was created in 1955. Its popularity and scale was later surpassed by Disney World in Florida! Disney was a man with a dream of making the greatest movie company in the world, but he died while making another movie, The Jungle Book.
His company continued on, however, under the direction of his brother, Roy Oliver Disney (1893-1971), and then his nephew, Roy Edward Disney (1930-2009). Roy E. Disney continued the traditional theme, and continued to make some of the most famous movies and characters today, including Robin Hood, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Roy retired after The Lion King, but Walt Disney Studios still continued to make movies!
Recently, it has broken with its traditional princess theme and also made another sub-company, Pixar, which made movies like the successful Toy Story series, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo. Disney still makes movies independent of Pixar, however, like Frozen. Its most recent movie is Big Hero 6. Walt Disney Studios may not be the only company out there, but it will still continue Walt Disney’s legacy and his dream, giving us even more fun and laughter, so be prepared for its next hit!
