One of the Worst Experimental Failures in the History of the World was the attempt to cross-breed the Africanized honey bee with various European Bees. In the 1950’s, the Killer Bee, as it became known, was imported to Brazil, initially to increase honey production. However, in 1957 26 swarms escaped quarantine and, since then, have spread through South and Central America, making it one of the most successful invasive species of all time.
Killer Bees tend to swarm more frequently, go farther, has greater defense, and guards more aggressively than other bees.
In 1994, the killer bee was introduced to the United states, and has since then greatly grown in numbers.
The Killer Bee is also unique in the way it defends. It aggressively pursues an enemy creature well over 500 meters. This earned it the name “Killer Bee”, although it is very rare to die from one. Still, it is greatly feared by Americans.
