Chocolate… A lot of people mostly think of how great it tastes and how good it looks (like me). They are not wrong about it. Chocolate probably is the greatest-tasting thing out there! One of the reasons that I’m focusing on chocolate is because chocolate candy is very popular on Halloween, another is because National Chocolate Day is on the 28th of October!
No one knows when chocolate was invented, exactly; it has been here since about 2000 B.C. at least. Chocolate comes from cacoa beans, at the time only native to the Americas and Africa, so the Europeans did not even know about it until the 1500’s! It wasn’t until the 1700’s that chocolate established a foothold in Europe, when those that could afford it discovered its great taste. A lot of people have different tastes, but a surprising amount of people (especially children) love chocolate. That is why chocolate became popular.
There are many types of chocolate; the first type in the B.C’s was unsweetened chocolate, which doesn’t taste as good as the other types: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. White chocolate was invented in 1955. Chocolate is now used in many different forms: the traditional chocolate bar and truffles, ice cream, cake, brownies, and many more things! Chocolate may be somewhat unhealthy for you due to the fat and sugar content, but it also has benefits: it can help digestion of milk products for those who are lactose-intolerant and has anti-oxidants. However, the warnings of it being unhealthy doesn’t stop too many people from tasting it.
Chocolate is the #1 candy and for good reason- it is now a big part of society. As Halloween approaches, many children start thinking of how MUCH chocolate they will get while trick-or-treating.
