The U.S. Presidential Election of 2016 has interested me very much, especially the Republican Candidates. There were so many candidates for the nominations at first, but now there are only 7 major candidates still running as of today. Two are Democratic and five are Republican. Today I am focusing on the Democratic Candidates.
For the Democrats, there used to be 6 major candidates. Lawrence Lessig was a Harvard Law Professor but dropped out due to him not being allowed into the democratic debates. Jim Webb was another candidate. Webb was a former Secretary of the Navy under Ronald Reagan, and was also a U.S. Senator from Virginia from 2007-2013. He suspended his campaign on October 20, 2015. Lincoln Chafee was a former Senator from Rhode Island 1999-2007, and also was the governor 2011-2015. He suspended his campaign on October 23, 2015. Also, there was Martin O’Malley, the governor of Maryland 2011-2015, who suspended his campaign on February 1, 2016 as a result of his poor showing in the Iowa Caucuses.
There are two caniddates still running. As of now, the Democratic front-runner is Hillary Clinton, former First Lady of the United States and wife of former President Bill Clinton, former U.S. Senator from New York 2001-2009, and Secretary of State 2009-2013 under Barrack Obama. The other major candidate is Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator 2007-Present and Representative 1981-2007 from Vermont.
