On April 20, 2016, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill sometime in the next decade.
Originally, The Treasury Department had decided to replace Alexander Hamilton with Tubman, but the popularity of the musical Hamilton is the most likely cause for saving Hamilton. In my opinion, I would not replace Hamilton, the founder of the United States Treasury!
What made more sense was to replace Andrew Jackson with Tubman. Jackson actually destroyed the Bank of the United States, and had forced Native-Americans to move west.
Tubman herself was born a slave, but escaped and led many other slaves to Freedom before and during the Civil War. She also was actively involved in the Woman’s Suffrage Movement, and has become an American icon. What are your thoughts on the subject?
