Graves at Arlington National Cemetery

In just four days Memorial Day will occur, in which we remember those brave men and women who died while serving in the military of the United States.

Memorial Day started somewhat unofficially, during the Civil War. Confederate soldiers who died in action were honored during that time period in the South. In 1868, Northern states accepted “Decoration Day”, as it was called then, as a state holiday, and a parade for it was first created. The name Memorial Day was first used for the holiday around 1882. The difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day is this: Veteran’s Day is for all those who served in the military, and Memorial Day is in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Let us remember those who died in service to this great country of ours!
