The theme of the second day of the 2016 Republican National Convention was “Make America Work Again.”
The first day of the convention was very dramatic, as Donald Trump and Mike Pence were nominated as the 2016 Republican ticket. Originally, there were many candidates for vice-president. Trump narrowed it down to Chris Christie, Newt Gingrich, and Pence. I’m very glad he chose Pence. Pence has been kind of overshadowed by Trump so far, but he is a self-described “Christian, Conservative, and Republican, in that order”, so he sounds good. He also is a politician, as a former Representative and current governor of Indiana. He is what Trump needs: a person counted as experienced, from the Midwest, not as forceful and more reserved than Trump. This is a unity ticket, and I hope it works!
Some notable speakers at on the second night of the convention were: Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, House majority leader, Chris Christie, governor of New Jersey, Tiffany Trump, Donald Trump, Jr, and Ben Carson, one of trump’s primary opponents. I thought Donald Trump, Jr was stellar, and Christ Christie dramatically attacked Hillary Clinton amid the crowd’s chant of “Lock Her Up!”
The General Election this year should be very interesting: to put it bluntly, there’s Donald Trump, the rash, divisive but motivating business mogul, and there’s Hillary Clinton, the experienced but corrupt politician. You choose.
