The 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, is the first to be held in Latin America since 1968.
However, the Olympics opened with much controversy. Front and Center, the instability of the current government in Brazil. President Dilma Rousseff was impeached and suspended on May 12, 2016, and replaced by Michael Temer, the Acting President of Brazil. Also, there have been many concerns about health, mostly about the Zika Virus, which has been located in Brazil. There has been a doping scandal involving Russia, too, affecting many of that nation’s athletes.
Still, the Summer Olympics went on, with it’s opening ceremony starting on August 5. Whether the 2016 Summer Olympics will be a terrible disappointment, or a shining star, will be found out by the closing ceremony on August 21.
