Donald Trump took the oath of office on January 20, 2017, and is now the 45th President of the United States of America.

Many people thought this would never happen, but on election day, 2016, some reliably Democratic states swung towards Trump, giving him the election and dashing Hillary Clinton’s hopes for the presidency. During his inaugural address, Donald Trump made “America First” one of his central themes, and gave a speech vowing to end government corruption. Many protests occurred during this time, with the protesters even breaking windows and blocking the road to the parade. My message to the liberals who caused that is this: Accept what happened! Accept the fact that America voted the other way, it happens all the time. Blocking roads and causing damage does not help anybody’s cause, it is only causing more division. I sincerely doubt had the circumstances been switched, had Hillary Clinton been elected in Trump’s stead, that Republicans would have protested and caused this much damage as well. Everyone needs to accept this, and stop dragging progress through the field. We need to live up to our country’s name, the United States.

Trump’s cabinet picks are also controversial: he chose Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State, Steven Mnuchin for Secretary of the Treasury, James Mattis for secretary of Defence, Jeff Sessions for Attorney General, and Ryan Zinke for Secretary of the Interior. Ben Carson and Rick Perry are among his other cabinet picks.

America needs unity desperately, and it also needs peace. Obama was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. Why should Trump’s election in 2016 bother people so much? There’s a congress to keep him in check should he do anything too rash, and what he does should not make Democrats any more angry than Republicans were with what Obama did for 8 years! For me, it was about time to have a Republican president again, as the election cycle always comes back to one party and then the other.
