LEGO is one of the most useful things to have ever been invented. Billions of these tiny bricks have been produced since the company’s founding, and it has entertained millions of people. LEGO is one of the largest companies in the world, and one of the most popular.

LEGO was not always as popular as it is now. Ole Kirk Christiansen was a carpenter from Billing, Denmark, who began producing wooden toys in 1932. These did not sell very well, and Ole came up with a name for his toys, LEGO. They sold better, but in 1942, his workshop burned down. Ole rebuilt it, but used plastic toys instead of wooden ones, which were on the decline in the market. In 1949, Ole created a brick system, which can be built off of and supports the weight of the builder’s craft. However, these were prone to fall apart, and he soon created a more interlocking brick system, now known as Legos.
Ole died in 1958, and his son took over the company. The demand and amount of Legos dramatically increased, and the LEGO company is one of the largest and most profitable in the world. All it took was a man who wouldn’t give up, even if most would have in his place.
I had recently visited the San Diego Toys and Dolls Museum in Poway, and learned a lot about the history of LEGO there. Unfortunately, the museum is closing on April 15th. It is sad that something so historic will be gone forever, but I learned about Legos there!
